RATIONALE

The university strives to provide an atmosphere of fairness for all students. To that end, no student will be allowed to endanger or repeatedly disrupt the learning of others, gain credit for work via unauthorized means, or receive undue consideration.

ATTENDANCE

Rationale: (select all that apply)
Research shows that students who attend classes regularly tend to make better grades than those who do not attend regularly.
Exams and assignments regularly cover material presented in class that may not be contained in the textbook.
Attendance is vital to class participation which is an important component of the learning experience.
Therefore, students should strive to attend every class session.

TARDINESS

Rationale:
Many students have jobs and/or face commuting difficulties, so it is understandable if they are late to one or two class sessions.
However,    Nonetheless,
Students who arrive late miss important information and disrupt class.
Students who arrive late are indicating disrespect for their instructor and classmates.
Many students want their education to lead to professional employment. In the business world, punctuality is rewarded and tardiness is punished.
Therefore, students should make every effort to ensure that they arrive and are seated in class on time.
Other
If circumstances force a student to be tardy, he or she should enter class quietly and take a seat without interrupting the class.

(select one or more of the following statements)
Though attendance will not be taken, the student should make every effort to be punctual.
Students will be considered tardy if they
are not in their seats when class begins
are not in their seats for roll call
are minutes late for class
For the purposes of assessing the student’s attendance grade, tardies will count as an absence.

EATING & DRINKING

Rationale:
Students should be able to exercise the privilege of eating and drinking in class, but only if everyone takes responsibility and no one abuses the privilege.
Our class takes place in a room where eating and drinking are prohibited.
        Therefore:
There will be no eating in class.
There will be no eating or drinking in class.
Eating and drinking in class is allowed provided each student completely cleans up any mess he or she creates.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

What is academic dishonesty?
According to the CSUF Office of Judicial Affairs, it’s cheating—obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for work by the use of any dishonest, deceptive, fraudulent, or unauthorized means. It’s also academic dishonesty if you help someone else do any of these things.
Rationale: [Not finished yet]
Here are some examples of academic dishonesty:
1) Unacceptable examination behavior: communicating with other students, copying from another person’s exam, allowing another student to copy one’s own exam, using cheat sheets or other unauthorized material.
2) Plagiarism: copying or paraphrasing the work of another without giving credit to the source.
3) Fraud: misrepresenting the work of others as one's own regardless of whether permission has been granted for use.
4) Unauthorized collaboration: whether on a project, homework, or other assignment, any collaboration which has been expressly forbidden by the instructor
5) Document falsification: forgery, altering of campus documents or records, altering of medical excuses, fabricating lab assignments, falsifying information or citations in written work, intentionally misgrading one’s own work or the work of others, or inaccurately entering one’s own grades or the grades of others.
